There are courses that all teacher education majors must take within their programs. Some of these courses have been specifically redesigned for urban education and are critical to your training and development as a teacher. Many of these offerings provide special visits to partner cities to learn from, with, and within our communities versus just learning about communities.
Through redesigned courses, you will have an opportunity to dig deeper and explore systemic issues of race, class, and privilege as you observe, interact, and apply your entire curriculum into your teaceher identity and practice. These clinicals will provide you with firsthand experience to visualize yourself teaching in diverse and high-need urban schools in life-affirming, realistic, and reflective ways.
Because of the redesigned courses, urban clinical experiences are no longer bound to a typical, passive classroom observation experience. Instead, you are able to directly engage with urban students, teachers, community activists, and parents through a variety of activities tailored to your needs. Redesigned course sections are denoted in Course Finder with a National Center for Urban Education (NCUE) tag in Section Notes.
